Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a synthetic plastic polymer thermoplastic used in a broad range of applications. It appears in both rigid and flexible forms, and each form includes a number of different classifications. Additionally, while PVC is naturally brittle, manufacturers can add plasticizers to produce flexible materials. PVC plastic is the third most produced synthetic plastic polymer, with ~40 million tons produced every year.
Emco Industrial Plastics is the largest stocking distributor and fabricator of PVC sheet, rod and tube. Emco has served the chemical processing industry for over 40 years.
Type 1 PVC – The normal impact grade material conforms to ASTM D 1784-81 Class 12454 B, Type 1, Grade 1. It features excellent chemical resistance in both acid and alkali solutions for temperatures up to a maximum of 140° F. All grades are self-extinguishing. Applications range from machined and fabricated parts to chemical processing and ventilation equipment.
Type 2 PVC – High impact grade material conforms to ASTM D-1784-81, Class 15344-D, Type II. Grade 1. Has excellent resistance to acids and alkaline solutions. Superior properties allow for cold rolling, vacuum-forming and ease of fabrication. Applications are primarily ventilation equipment, such as fume scrubbers, ducting and blower housings which require higher impact resistance than Type I provides.
